FAQs
1) How can I join the Global Dialogue for Effective Stop Smoking Campaigns?
If you are a tobacco control practitioner or researcher, a communications professional who assists these campaigns, or a member of the tobacco control community interested in effective public education/mass media campaigns, you are a candidate for membership. To become a member, complete our online membership application. We will review your application for any conflicts of interest. Accepted members will receive usernames and passwords via email. You will need to log in to enter the Members Only part of the Web site where you can access and share materials and data.
2) How can my organization become a Global Dialogue partner?
The Global Dialogue partners are organizations that have committed funds and/or staff time to contribute to Global Dialogue projects. We encourage additional organizations to join the Global Dialogue initiative. If your organization is interested in becoming a partner of the Global Dialogue initiative, please visit the contact us to express your organization's interest.
3) Can you provide funds to my organization for the development of a public education/mass media campaign?
The Global Dialogue initiative assists campaign practitioners with improving the effectiveness of their campaigns but does not have the resources to provide funding for campaigns. We can, however, help you make the case that funding a mass media/public education campaign is a good use of government or NGO resources. For a document summarizing data on the effectiveness of campaigns and their key role in tobacco control programs, click here.
4) Do you have campaign resources and materials that you can send to me?
We are not able to email resources and materials; however there are a variety of materials available on our site for download by the general public. In addition, the Members Only section of the Web site contains campaign resources, such as presentations, research summaries, campaign results and other documents contributed by campaign managers around the world. By becoming a member of Global Dialogue, you will gain access to the Members Only section. Please visit the registration page to learn more.
5) Are there tobacco control advertisements available for us to view?
Yes. Sample advertisements and other materials are available for viewing through the Members Only section of the Web site. Members are given access to these materials as trusted tobacco control advocates. The advertisements are for viewing purposes only and cannot be aired/placed/shown publicly without permission from the producing organizations. There are legal constraints on use of ads and other materials that may make you liable for paying high fees if you do not gain permission and negotiate use in advance. Please contact us for more information.
6) Does the Global Dialogue host meetings for campaign practitioners?
Yes, the Global Dialogue initiative periodically hosts meetings or conferences in various regions, as funding permits. For a current list of the workshops and other events Global Dialogue is sponsoring, click here.
7) How is the Global Dialogue initiative funded?
The Global Dialogue initiative began in January 2005 as a unique collaboration between public, private and non-profit organizations, all linked by the shared interest in decreasing smoking prevalence by maximizing the impact of stop smoking campaigns as part of comprehensive tobacco control programs. In 2006, the initiative broadened to include campaigns to reduce exposure to secondhand smoke.
The Global Dialogue initiative partners contribute staff time and/or funding to the initiative, in order to make progress on the initiative's key projects. For a list of current partner organizations, click here.
8) Can I make a personal donation to Global Dialogue?
At this time, we cannot accept donations from individuals. However, if your organization is interested in donating staff time and/or financial resources, please contact us for more information.

For more information about the Global Dialogue initiative or to reach a staff member, please complete the online contact form or simply write to global@stopsmokingcampaigns.org. A Global Dialogue representative will contact you shortly.
10) Do you focus on stop smoking campaigns only, or do you also work with secondhand smoke campaigns?
The Global Dialogue initiative was established in 2005 with a focus on stop smoking campaigns but has since broadened to include secondhand smoke campaigns since both are critical components of a public education effort to support a comprehensive tobacco control program.
11) Is a tool available to measure the effectiveness of stop smoking campaigns?
Yes. In the Members Only section of this website, sign in, and then under Campaign Development, sort for "Research & Evaluation." After registering to become a Member, use your username and password to sign into the Members Only section of the Website. Click on Contribute Your Learnings on the Members Only home page to upload materials, following the instructions provided on that page.
